Mac Media Player could be the best DVD player for Mac to enjoy DVD movies. For starters, you need to select it as the default DVD player in Mac. Open CDs & DVDs under Hardware and select ignore for item marked when you insert a video DVD. A guy told me just play the DVD on my Mac using its internal DVD player and turn on AirPlay Mirroring, but it won't work. If this is not possible, can you guys tell me which kind of But Apple's DVD player software doesn't support Airplay Mirroring, while Apple TV only reads H.264 and MPEG-4 videos.
I absolutely adore this USB External DVD and CD drive! The drive works seamlessly with my macbook air. During startup of the drive, you simply insert a CD/DVD and wait for your macbook to read the disk. Then, a CD icon should pop up on your desktop.
If you're trying to sync CDs with iTunes, that is an even easier process! ITunes should automatically turn on and ask if you'd like to sync the CD. Once you've completed your usage of the disc, you click on the disc icon, go to 'File' in the main menu on the top of the macbook, and scroll down to 'eject disc'.
I considered this purchase a bargain, and I highly recommend the drive! This is obviously a very good item as the many reviews show. My new iMac does not have a dvd drive, so you need an external if you use discs.
My fault, but I thought this was a slot drive. I guess I don't know enough to know it would called such if it was a slot dvd drive.
It's made by Archgon, which seems to be a secret in the amazon listings. I discovered they are a somewhat well known company. It worked off of one usb input but has a Y cable in case it needs more power. Using 2 inputs would upset me, but it didn't need it and worked off of only one of the usb cables. Just plugged it in to my computer, cd went right to itunes. DVD up and played with DVD player. A disc must be manually inserted by pushing a button on the unit.
This DVD player/writer is primarily designed to be portable and is best suited for notebooks and lap tops; however, there is no problem hooking it up to a desk top machine, and it comes with software for both PC's and Mac's, working with a whole array of Windows operating systems from Windows 8.1 on down. This unit does not come with its own power cord, and a powered USB connection is required; it will not operate if plugged into a USB bank that is not powered.
Plug it directly into a USB port on your computer or a powered USB bank, and you'll be good to go. I've had my mid-2015 MacBook Pro for about 6 months (and an iMac for about 3 years) which didn't have a CD/DVD read/write drive. I thought about getting the Apple version, but it's kind of expensive for just a few hours a use a month, at best. I really got this to start looking through my thousands of photos stored on DVDs and CDs, and so far it works perfectly.
I opened the box, plugged it into a USB 3.0 port (and no, this drive is USB 2.0, but DVD/CD drives just aren't fast enough to ever need USB 3.0) on my MacBook Pro, and I was good to go. You don't need drivers or anything (and some of you who think it's necessary for a Mac, really need to understand how a Mac works with peripherals). It was truly plug and play.
Great device, high quality, looks nice, and works with. After looking at other portable drives, I found this one to be the most promising for my Macbook Pro 2017 Model, which runs on a High Sierra operating system. I originally intended to buy the LG one but upon reading a review, it apparently didn't work with a High Sierra system. When I got this I tested it out and it worked perfectly fine. I used a dvd to test it but it also works with CDs.
The drive itself is thin and pretty lightweight. If you also have the same model laptop as me, the drive needs to be connected to the computer via USB so make sure you have a USB connector cord. The instructions are the easiest things to follow. Overall, a good product and well invested purchase.
For those looking for blu ray:The instructions included said that a software unaffiliated with the company had to be downloaded.
