So im at a hotel for a few days abd decided to try the xbox out on the wifi. Im sure youre all familiar with this.

Cant be done, says the front desk. But a few minutes of google and reddit told me to change the xbox mac axdress to match my phones mac address.

(Im pretty sure the mac has nothing to do with macintosh computers, but other ppl ive asked have been confused. 'Xbox is mac comptible? WhaaAAT?) So anyway, all went well and it worked, mostly. My question: i didnt write down the original mac address. Is my xbox screwed now for when i get home?

Or is my phone screwed? If you spend a lot of time in hotels, I'd recommend one of these. I'm in a new hotel pretty much every week and I bring my xbox along. This is this amazing. You turn it on and select it on your laptops wifi.

Go to their website and it'll ask you to set it up. Select the hotel wifi, set a name/password for your device, and that's it. Now you select your device from your laptop and do the usual hotel wifi login process but this is the only time you do it.

Every other device you hook up wirelessly to your travel router (Xbox included) just logs onto it like any other wireless connection. I know of MAC addresses Your previous comment implied that you knew absolutely nothing about MAC addresses, at all. Also, they can't really be changed, as they are hard coded into the network card. You can get the device ( phone/pc/laptop/console etc) to 'pretend' it has a different one though, which is useful/necessary for some kinds of network setups, but you can always revert back to the original one. For the most part though, you will never need to worry about your MAC address, ever.
