Honestly, that was the very first thing I learned about web design, in middle school, back in the early 90s. Yes, the KISS rule (Keep It Simple, Stupid) was the very first thing I learned about user interface design. It has only gotten more true as technology has become more sophisticated, unfortunately.

And while I know this discussion is beginning to go off-topic. It is still relevant to the instructions given in the beginning if for no other reason than it's giving a solid reason they need to be improved.
